Why cannot liberalism see the failings of the United Nations and the failed concept of using the Olympics to build world peace. The United Nations has allowed for corruption in the Oil for Food Program, raping in Africa, and killing all over the world, but liberals cannot admit the failure of this organization. This same mentality has allowed the Olympics to be held in Nazi Germany(36), scheduled for militaristic Japan(44), communist Moscow (80) and now repressive Beijing(08).
Tonight marks the next example of failed liberal ideals and forced diplomacy.
The United Nations has failed to prevent more deaths, and robbed the dignity of too many nations. They have recognized rogue regimes all around the globe and given them cover by allowing them to join the civilized world...all in an attempt to persuade them from doing exactly what they have tacitly endorsed by recognizing the very people who commit the horrible offenses aganist humanity.
Watching the beautifull pagentry in Beijing can blind one to the real ugliness of what lies behind the color, technology and sheer magnifisense of the opening ceromony tonight. Precission on the grandest scale hides the forced abortions, while the pristine stadium blocks the view of a millions of politically abused people. A high profile recognition of China's 56 nationalities ignores the plight of the people many of these represent.
Giving the Olympics to China is the very worst message to to send to Chinese who suffer under the oppression of tyrany. The UN giving Chad, Libya, Iran seats on prestigeous committees like Arms, and Human Rights is obnoxious. Liberals fail to understand the carrot and the stick to change.
The Olympic refussual to allow Tiawan to hoist there own flag, is an insult to free people everywhere! The allowing of nations who do not agree to the most basic human rights into the UN is an insult to humanity. Giving creedence to rogue states and countries sends the wrong message to people everywhere struggling to bring down oppressive regimes.
Tonight, is a sad celebration of what happens when liberals think they can change the world with hope instead of action. Possibly the only good that comes from the next 17 days in China, is that energy use will be down at the factories.
finally, as the games begin, one can only hope that the wise and sage minds that decide such things will finally come to there wits and stop awarding the games to nations whlo oppress there people...but then again, it is too late!
A simple rule should exist that no nation can belong the UN unless they respect basic human right and allow for the freedom of thought, religion and movement. This should include the exclussion to the Olympics of naitions who do not do the same.
Here is to the courage of the dissidents in China, like the recent departed Solzennitzen(sp), we must celebrate those who put their lives, the fortunes and their sacred honor into the ring of fire!
